Using the right frequency makes all the difference when it comes to finding underground utility lines. The depth of the line, the size, the material and the extent of the signal overload (e.g. Proximity to transformer stations) must be taken into account in order to choose the right frequency. Large diameters, underground pipes with bell housings that use insulators and rubber seals for water or gas require a higher frequency, while smaller diameters and long distances work better at a lower frequency. The VM-810 operates at 83.1kHz, which is ideal for water and gas utilities that generally have larger pipes with pump carriers and seals. The VM-810's higher frequency is also well suited to locate small diameter ungrounded conductors and route signals through the ground onto cables when direct connection is not possible. Distance-dependent left/right guidance: This function allows the locator to select which antenna receives the strongest signal.
