Probes are small, self-contained, battery-powered transmitters. Probes are pushed through non-metallic tubes and channels and can be located on the surface by a probe locator or a probe-mode receiver. Probes are also installed in other products, such as inspection cameras, crawler cameras or a nozzle hose. Probes come in different sizes, depending on how deep they can be located. Different frequencies are available that make it possible to place probes in metallic or non-metallic pipes and channels.
