In addition to the normal ram core probes, a sampler with a plastic sample tube can be used. The tube is transparent to allow immediate visual inspection in the field. The special piercing head is equipped with a replaceable core catcher to prevent loss or contamination of the sample. The sample tube containing the undisturbed sample can be sealed for transport to a laboratory.
